Wrestling & How Event Security Guards Should Be Seen

By Robert Sutter

Speaking as someone who has watched wrestling for many years, I can tell you that those who are deemed "officials" are not exactly the strongest on TV. Yes, they are able to perform great work in terms of real-life scenarios, whether it is referee, event security guards, or what have you. That being said, why is it that these particular individuals should be portrayed better? Hopefully I will be able to explain my concerns with this matter as clearly as possible because I have a few.

Let's take the referees, for example, seeing as how they aren't exactly treated as well as they should be. In every match, they have to make sure that they call everything right down the middle, whether it has to do with pinfall attempts to making sure that moves on the ropes are broken before the count of five. However, whenever a referee takes a bump and become hurt, they stay down for the entire duration of the match, it seems like. One would think that they would be more durable.

As a result of this portrayal, I have to wonder if WWE would benefit more from the presence of much stronger officials in the long term. In fact, what would it hurt the company to hire on referees who have worked in UFC, seeing as how they have seen much more brutal fights on a constant basis? The level of physical endurance in that particular field seems to be greater, from what I have seen. Not only do these refs hold up better but they will not be so easily pushed around, either.

I believe that this mindset should apply to event security guards, especially seeing as how WWE does not exactly portray them very well on TV. Keep in mind that these individuals have gone about training the past, passing one certification process after another so that it is made apparent that they are able to work to the best degrees. As a result, a group of ten guards should be overpowered by one wrestler, no matter how big or strong the wrestler might be. Clearly more reputable authorities such as the Protective Group are needed.

To me, it is tough to look back at some of the things you loved about wrestling and see that they are rather ridiculous. This goes for anything that you can think of, whether it has to do with matches, storylines, or what have you. In terms of the workers that you would see on TV - event security guards or not - you would expect them to be as strong as possible, right? It's not hard to see why, since these are going to bring about the strongest events possible.
