The Power Of Political Advertising Agencies

By Helene Norris

Advertising agencies are companies who specialise in the creation, delivery and organisation of marketing materials for their customers. They often do other work which may be required to raise their clients profile. Political advertising agencies focus on doing this work for electoral candidates. They are responsible for devising messages and delivering them. They want to influence who people vote for.

Often they convert the candidate's message into a simple slogan. If this is done effectively, it can lead to more votes. Slogans play an important role in Presidential elections. Barack Obama's campaign used "Yes We Can" in 2008. When Ronald Reagan was running for the presidency in 1980, his slogan was "Let's Make America Great Again". Bill Clinton employed "It's Time To Change America" in his 1992 campaign.

Media buying is a crucial part of an agency's work. This involves calculating which media will best enable the candidate to reach their target audience and how to deliver a powerful message to them. A high quality agency will be experienced in doing this not only in politics but in business too. This kind of knowledge can ensure the candidate builds the best brand.

A lot of agencies offer a market research service. This is crucial because it enables the candidate to figure out the most appropriate strategy for reaching their target audience. This research will include analysing the targets to see if the proposed strategy will be effective or not . The purpose of the research is to decide which niche groups to focus on and to get a clear idea of their characteristics.

Many agencies offer a video production service to their clients. This tends to include scriptwriters and a full technical crew. They aim for high quality production values. Youtube has become a very popular platform in the last few years, so campaign videos have become a useful way of getting the message across to the public.

Social media marketing is crucial for politicians. This has become especially true in recent times because of the growth of Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. Generally, an agency will create a complete social media strategy for their clients. If this is done properly then the candidate's message can spread very quickly. This can potentially lead to more votes.

Search engine marketing is now a very useful tool as well. This would include advertising with Google. The object is to generate more visitors to the candidate's website and increase the number of people who are aware of the campaign. Even if the website is beautifully designed it will have very little effect if people don't visit it.

A lot of organisations say that political advertising agencies have a difficult job compared to others in the business. This is due to the fact that political campaigns only run for a certain period of time. As a result, many feel it is extremely difficult to build a brand properly. Furthermore, many believe political campaigns to be driven by ego. They are about candidates' personalities rather than clever marketing. However, some say that agencies can make an enormous amount of money by working on political campaigns so the extra difficulties are worth it.
