US Federal Contractor Registration has announced their launch of their new government contracting focused web design division GovKinex. The firm has already helped several contractors establish a viable web presence at a fraction of the cost and time demanded by traditional web development services. The service includes registration of a domain, creation of a 7 page site in the proper government format, hosting and updates for one year, inclusion in the official government small business search engine, and email bid notification. The package also covers full registration required for federal contracting, including Dun & Bradstreet, CCR registration, ORCA filing, and the FEMA Vendor Profile.
The federal government has already awarded over $110 Billion in federal contracts nationwide since October 1st, 2011, according to USASpending. Nearly half the contracts awarded so far have been awarded to small businesses. The United States Government is one of the world's largest consumers, spending over $535 Billion on goods and services from private companies and awarding over $550 Billion in grants last year.
On average, companies spend 20 months and $100,000 trying to win their first federal contract. The Small Business Administration advises contracting newcomers to market themselves aggressively in order to successfully break into the federal market. This includes crafting a targeted website that contracting officers can access to learn about your capabilities.
Federal Acquisition Regulations require procurement officers to conduct market research for certain government purchases. In this way, they are much like the 97% of private sector consumers who used online media to perform research prior to buying a product or service.
Unfortunately, many contractors fail to take proactive measures after CCR registration to win federal contracts. "Marketing is absolutely essential for small businesses to succeed in government contracting," says Eric Knellinger, president of US Federal Contractor Registration. "Even though there are over 620,000 businesses currently registered in CCR with hundreds more registering every month, contracts seem to be awarded to the same vendors over and over again. Why? Because the businesses winning those contracts took the time to build their brand and develop a relationship with those purchasing officers."
Although many small businesses assume they can't compete with big companies or fulfill the government's needs, the reality is that over $92 Billion in contracts were awarded to small businesses during the 2011 fiscal year according to USASpending. Contractors can give themselves a further leg up by establishing their brand online and marketing aggressively to government buyers.
