Excavation And De-Watering

By Cherry Annie

The Vendor will remove any trees, roots, stumps or other obstructions which interfere with the construction of the drainage works. Excavated areaes for drainage conduits will be excavated carefully to the required grade as indicated on the drawings with due allowance made for the minimum depth of bedding dirt required. Excavated area widths will be a minimum of twice the conduit external diameter (pipe) or width (culvert).

Where soft clay or silt or other unsuitable material occurs at the completed trench excavation grade, such material shall be removed and replaced with suitable trench base material. When such unsuitable material is discovered, the Contractor shall inform the Superintendent, who shall determine the extent of the removal of such material and the type of material to be used as replacement. Removal and replacement of the unsuitable material shall be at a rate to be agreed.

Excavated area excavation for any drainage conduit will not be commenced until sufficient resources (including plant, equipment, pipes, culverts, bedding dirt, back fill dirt) are on site to ensure that construction of the particular drainage conduit may be completed in a swift orderly operation. Loose dirt at the bottom of the excavated area excavation as a result of over excavation will be removed if so directed by the Supervisor and replaced with approved bedding dirt at the Vendor's cost.

Trench excavation for any drainage pipe shall not be commenced until sufficient resources (including plant, equipment, pipes, culverts, bedding material, back fill material) are on site to ensure that construction of the particular drainage pipe may be completed in a swift orderly operation.

The Contractor shall not permit pumped water to discharge on to any areas of existing plant, or on to any areas of earthworks being constructed, but shall ensure that all pumped water discharges into appropriate drainage channels.
